Callouts — put text or an image on your video

Show a short line of text, an emoji or a picture on your outgoing video in one of three spots, and take it down with one shortcut.

A callout puts text, an emoji or an image on top of your outgoing video — a key number, a link, a decision, a screenshot. Everyone in the meeting sees it, and it stays up until you clear it. Your camera stays on underneath.

There are three spots, each its own widget:

  • Lower Third — a wide banner across the bottom.
  • Side — a tall card on the left, for lists and longer text.
  • Top Banner — a thin strip across the top, for one short line.

Callouts are part of the Pro plan.

Set up

  1. Open your dashboard and find the Promotion section.
  2. Turn on the spots you want: Lower Third Callout, Side Callout, Top Banner Callout. You can move and resize each one there.
  3. Under Workspaces, turn on Callout Composer — the box where you write callouts. Only you see it.

A callout shows only in a spot that is turned on.

Write a callout

  1. Open the Callout Composer: during a meeting, click the Callout Composer circle on the Control HUD, or press ⌃⌥⌘C at any time.
  2. Under Target slots, tick one or more of Lower Third, Side and Top Banner.
  3. Type your text. The preview shows how it will look.
  4. Click Show on Video (or press ⌘Return).

Currently showing lists what each spot holds. Text sizes itself to fit, so short text shows large. Your draft is kept between meetings.

Close the Composer with ×; the Control HUD circle or ⌃⌥⌘C brings it back. Each meeting starts with it hidden.

Add an emoji or an image

  • Emoji: click one of the emojis under the text box, or More emojis… for the full set, then Show on Video. An emoji on its own fills the whole spot.
  • Image: copy a picture and click Paste Image, or click Screenshot and drag over part of your screen. It goes to the first ticked spot.

There is also a small Callout… window for emojis and images in the promptpov menu in the menu bar.

Send from the AI Assistant

Right-click in the AI Assistant's conversation, then pick a spot:

  • Show Selection on Video — the text you selected.
  • Show Last Response on Video — the assistant's last answer.
  • Paste Image to Callout — the image on your clipboard.
  • Show Emoji on Video… — type or pick an emoji.
  • Clear Callout — clear one spot, or All Slots.

Send from the Notebook

Click the arrow button on a Notebook row to put that item on your video, with its icon. It goes to the first spot ticked in the Composer. The arrow fills in while the item is showing; click it again to take it down.

To check the wording first, Option-click (or right-click) the arrow. The item opens in the Callout Composer for you to edit and send. This needs the Callout Composer turned on.

To show several items at once, click Edit N items in Callout… under the Notebook list. The open items you're viewing open in the Composer as one list, one per line — delete the ones you don't want, reword, then Show on Video. A list reads best in the Side spot.

Rotate your pinned items

promptpov can cycle the Notebook items you pinned in this meeting through one spot.

  1. Open Settings → HUD.
  2. Choose One at a time (a new item every 8 seconds) or Stacked (as many as fit, rolling through the rest).
  3. Pick the spot in Show in:.

Anything you send to that spot yourself takes its place until you clear it — then the rotation comes back. To stop rotating, choose Off.

Clear callouts

  • Press ⌃⌥⌘X, or choose Clear Callouts from the promptpov menu in the menu bar. This clears every spot you sent to (pinned-item rotation, below, comes back until you turn it off).
  • In the Composer, Clear Slots clears the ticked spots.
  • In the AI Assistant, right-click → Clear Callout.

⌃⌥⌘X and ⌃⌥⌘C work while Zoom or Teams is in front only if promptpov is allowed in Accessibility. Without it they work only while promptpov is the app in front. To check, choose Run Diagnostic… from the promptpov menu and look at Global keyboard shortcuts — Grant opens the setting.

Change the look

Open Settings → Video → Callouts and pick a style: Card, Broadcast, Marker, Minimal or Sticky. Every text callout uses it; images always use Card.

Callouts, signs and widgets

  • Callouts are what you put up in the moment, over your camera.
  • A sign replaces your whole tile with a few very large words. While a sign is up, it covers your callouts too.
  • Video widgets — name card, clock, weather and so on — stay up all meeting and are set on the dashboard.

Tips

  • Keep it short — a few words read far better than a paragraph on a small gallery tile.
  • You can't see your own outgoing video while you talk, so clear a callout when you're done with it.
