Sign — big words on your video
Replace your video tile with a few very large words, like "BACK IN 5", that everyone can read even in gallery view.
A sign replaces your whole video tile with a solid color and a few very large words — "BACK IN 5", "YOU'RE ON MUTE", "CAN'T HEAR YOU". In gallery view your tile is small on everyone else's screen, so ordinary text on it is hard to read. A sign uses the whole tile, so the words stay readable.
A sign is on the video everyone in the meeting sees — unlike your Cockpit, which only you see. It changes only your tile: no screen share, no prompt for anyone else.
Show a preset
- Click the promptpov icon in the menu bar and choose Sign. During a meeting you can also click the sign circle on the Control HUD.
- Pick one of your four presets. It appears on your video right away.
The presets start as BACK IN 5, YOU'RE ON MUTE, CAN'T HEAR YOU and BRB.
Type your own
- Open the Sign menu and choose Custom….
- Type a few words in the Show on your video window. As you type, it tells you whether the sign reads well, is small, or will be cut off.
- Click Show.
You can also type a command where you take notes:
- In the Notebook's note field or the AI Assistant box, type
/sign back in 5and press Return. - Type
/sign offto take it down. - Type
/on its own to see all the commands.
Turn an AI Assistant answer into a sign
- In the AI Assistant, select part of an answer (or select nothing to use the last answer).
- Right-click and choose Show as Sign.
- Short text goes up at once. For longer text, promptpov offers three short signs to pick from — nothing is on your video until you click one.
Making a short sign from a longer answer needs on-device AI. Without it, select a short part of the answer and choose Show as Sign again.
Take it down
- Click the sign circle on the Control HUD — while a sign is up, one click brings your camera back.
- Or choose Off in the Sign menu (⌃⌥⌘S while promptpov is the app in front).
- Or type
/sign off.
A sign also clears by itself. Choose how long in Sign → Clears After: 30 s, 90 s (the default), 3 min, 5 min, 10 min or Never. A new choice also applies to a sign that's already up, counted from then.
Edit your presets
- Open the Sign menu and choose Edit Presets….
- Change any of the four lines. Leave one blank to restore its default.
- Click Save, or Reset All to go back to the original four.
Show your face too
Choose Show My Face in the Sign menu to add a small circle with your camera to the sign. It's off by default, because the circle takes room the words would use.
Tips
- Shorter is better. Two to four words read best on a small tile.
- You can't see your own outgoing tile while you talk, which is why signs clear by themselves. Pick Never only when you'll remember to take it down.
Limits
- Presets and
/signtake up to 28 characters, so they stay readable on small tiles. Custom… allows a little more, up to three lines, and warns you if it won't fit. - A single long word — a web address, say — is never cut, because a cut address is easy to mistype. Instead the whole sign gets smaller, and may be hard to read. Shorten it or break it into words.
