Getting started with promptpov

Create your account, install the app, finish setup and get ready for your first meeting.

promptpov puts widgets — your name card, the time, a callout and more — on the video people see in Zoom, Teams, FaceTime, Google Meet and other meeting apps. It also gives you a private Cockpit on your own screen, with notes and meeting tools that only you can see.

1. Sign in and download

  1. Go to app.promptpov.com and sign in. Type your email and click Send magic link, or click Sign in with Google. New accounts are created automatically.
  2. Your dashboard shows Install promptPOV on your Mac. Click Download for macOS. (The same download is at promptpov.com/download.)

promptpov needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26 (Tahoe) or newer.

2. Install the app

  1. Open the downloaded DMG. A window shows an arrow — drag promptPOV into Applications.
  2. Open promptpov from your Applications folder.

The camera only works when promptpov is in Applications. If you open it from the DMG or your Downloads folder, it asks Move promptpov to your Applications folder? Click Move to Applications and it copies itself there and reopens.

3. Follow the setup window

The Set up promptpov window walks you through each step, and moves on by itself when a step is done.

  1. Install the camera extension. Click Install.
  2. Approve it in System Settings. Click Open System Settings. In General → Login Items & Extensions, click ⓘ next to Camera Extensions and turn on promptpov's camera extension. macOS asks for your password. (If the window says Restart your Mac, click Restart Now.)
  3. Allow camera access. Click Request Access, then Allow in the macOS prompt.
  4. Connect your account. Click Sign in. Your browser opens; click Connect this Mac, then come back to the setup window. If you click Later, you can connect any time at app.promptpov.com/connect.
  5. See what others will see. Click See your video for a live preview of your camera with your widgets — exactly what people in your meetings see.
  6. Meet your Control HUD. A short tour of two buttons that light up green: Brief a few minutes before a meeting, and Recap when it ends. Click Got it.
  7. Connect your calendar. Click Connect Calendar so promptpov knows which meeting you're in — it shows when the meeting ends, files your notes under it and briefs you before it starts. macOS asks for calendar access. It uses the calendars in the Calendar app on your Mac, including a work Microsoft 365 account you've added there. Connecting Outlook directly needs your IT team's approval first — see Connect your calendar.
  8. Add on-device AI (only if your plan includes it). Click Download in background to start a one-time 13 GB download of the AI that runs on your Mac, or Not now to do it later in Settings.
  9. You're all set. The window lists where the camera setting is in the meeting apps on your Mac, and shows a check mark once a meeting app is using promptpov.

About admin passwords

Setup can ask for an administrator's password twice: once to put promptpov in Applications (if your Mac account isn't an administrator) and once to approve the camera extension. These are macOS rules for any app that adds a camera. On a work Mac your company manages, your IT team can install and approve promptpov for you — point them to promptpov.com/it.

4. Your first meeting

  1. Join your meeting as usual.

  2. In your meeting app, choose promptpov Virtual Camera as the camera:

    • Zoom: zoom.us menu → Settings → Video → Camera
    • Teams: ⋯ → Settings → Devices → Camera
    • FaceTime: Video menu → promptpov Virtual Camera
    • Google Meet: in a call, ⋮ → Settings → Video → Camera
  3. promptpov notices the meeting on its own. The Cockpit and the Control HUD appear on your screen — only you see them, never the people in the meeting.

Learn what's in them in The Cockpit. To check your video any time, choose Preview Widgets… from the promptPOV menu or the menu bar icon.

5. Choose your widgets

Your widgets live on your dashboard at app.promptpov.com. Turn a widget on, fill in its text and drag it into place on the preview. Some widgets go on your video for everyone to see; others are private cards for your Cockpit. See Video widgets for the full list.

6. Updates

promptpov checks for updates on its own and asks before installing one. You can also check any time: promptPOV menu → Check for Updates….

If an update is ready while you're in a meeting, promptpov asks Finish updating after this meeting? Click Wait Until the Meeting Ends to keep your call going, or Restart Now to update right away.

After an update, a small promptpov Updated window offers Release Notes… and Run Diagnostic.

7. Your plan

promptpov has two plans: Free, and Pro with everything — AI included — for $19 a month or $190 a year. A new account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, with no card needed. When the trial ends, your account moves to Free unless you upgrade — you're never charged automatically.

To see your plan, open your dashboard at app.promptpov.com. The Plan card shows your plan and, during a trial, the date it ends. On Free, the card offers Upgrade to Pro; on a paid plan, Manage billing → opens your billing details.

On Free, your video shows a promptpov watermark and transcription isn't included. Compare plans at promptpov.com/pricing.
